Subrata Mukherjee, Lecturer in Economics

 

He received his B.A. (Hons) and M. A. degrees in Economics from Visva Bharati University (Santiniketan) and obtained his M.Phil degree in Applied Economics from Centre for Development Studies (Thiruvananthapuram). His doctoral dissertation (submitted to Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi through Centre for Development Studies) has made an attempt to understand the role that quality and price play in people's health care seeking behaviour, using NSS and NFHS unit-record data and taking West Bengal as a case study. He has taught courses on Health Economics for the Public Health students at Achutha Menon Centre for Health Science Studies, Thiruvananthapuram. He has participated in a number of national-level seminars and workshops and presented papers on issues related to health including health inequality. His publications include 'Quality of Health Care and Household Choice: Evidence from NSS and NFHS data for the state of West Bengal' (in B B Bhattacharya and Arup Mitra edited Studies in Macroeconomics and Welfare, Academic Foundation, New Delhi 2005), 'Health Care in West Bengal: What is Happening' (jointly with Achin Chakraborty, Economic and Political Weekly, Vol. 38, No. 48, 2003).
