Sociologist and Political Scientist Professor Ray is Emeritus Professor of Sociology and Political Science at Presidency College, Kolkata and Guest Teacher at the Department of Sociology, Calcutta University .
He was Professor and Head, Department of Political Science and Department of Sociology at Presidency College, Kolkata. His areas of research are Political Learning, State and Conflict, Movement Studies and Economic Morals. He has guided doctoral candidates researching in Occupational Sociology, Network Theory, Politics of Marginal People, Feminist Autobiography and Middle Class Politics.
